1. Are you on a team? And if so, who will I be working with if you are unavailable?
Real Estate Teams are the premier way to run a real estate business in this day and age. A team enables agents to specialize in areas of expertise allowing for them to be of the most benefit to their clients. You will want to meet the other members of their team and understand their roles, as related to you.
2. How many homes did you sell last year?
You want to make sure you are hiring a full time agent, not a part time agent. Look for at least 1 home a month or 12 homes per year as a minimum.
3. What is the home buying process and what is your role in the process?
If the agent hasn’t prepared a packet for you that explains both of these processes, you want to make sure they explain their role and the buying process role thoroughly. You want to make sure they are committed to the entire process and feel comfortable that they will guide you through it.
4. Do you specialize in resale or new construction? If you do both, how many of the homes that you sold last year were new construction?
You want to make sure that if you are considering new construction that the agent you are hiring has worked with several different builders and has done a fair amount of new construction.
5. Why do you think buyers choose you as their agent?
This is a question that will put the agent on their toes. You want to see that they are confident in their abilities and can sell themselves. If they can’t sell themselves to you, how are they going to sell your offer to a listing agent or a new construction sales representative?
6. Is there anything you need to know from me before beginning this process?
The agent should ask if you are working with another agent, if you have been pre-approved and they should go over your criteria for homes and communities and set you up on an automatic search for homes that meet your criteria.
